Overview

EZ-PD™ CMG1 is a dedicated electronically marked cable assembly (EMCA) controller targeting passive non-Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt USB Type-C cables. It supports Power Delivery 3.0, USB Type-C 1.3, and integrates VBUS-CC short protection, VBUS-VCONN short, and ESD protection. The controller is built to operate from 2.7 V to 5.5 V VCONN supply range and includes 40-bytes of storage for vendor and cable-specific configuration. data.

EZ-PD™ CMG1 is a complete solution that provides an easy-to-use graphic utility (EZ-PD™ Configuration Utility) and a dedicated SDK, including a passive EMCA paddle card reference design and wide documentation support which significantly contributes to speed up the design cycle. Additionally, the device distinguishes itself for its ease of use and the support for VBUS-to-CC short protection.

EZ-PD™ CMG1 includes two parts, both available in compact 9-ball WLCSP packages: CYPD2703 and CYPD2704. CYPD2703 is aimed at non-Thunderbolt passive cables, while CYPD2704 targets Thunderbolt passive cables.

The EZ-PD™ Configuration Utility includes EZ-PD™ CMG1 Manufacturing Test Kit (MTK) Utility which allows the tuning of the configuration parameters of the device over the CC interface. Using this graphic utility, designers can set up vendor-specific and cable-specific parameters. After these are set, the EZ-PD™ CMG1 MTK Utility is used for the configuration and testing of CMG1-based passive EMCA cables. Detailed information on the hardware set up and step-by-step instructions are provided in “Getting started with EZ-PD™ CMG1”.
