About

Infineon’s System-on-chip (SoC) solution for motor control

The MOTIX™ MCU (SoC) solutions integrate all essential functions to sense, control, and actuate a motor. MOTIX™ 32-bit motor control SoCs combine a microcontroller, flash memory, analog and mixed-signal peripherals, communication interfaces, and driving stages on a single die. They support relay, half-bridge, and full-bridge DC and BLDC motor applications, offering a comprehensive solution for advanced motor control applications.

Infineon's portfolio of MOTIX™ MCU | 32-bit motor control SoC solutions

The MOTIX™ 32-bit motor control SoC solutions based on Arm® Cortex®-M integrate on a single die the 32-bit microcontroller, the non-volatile flash memory, the analog and mixed signal peripherals, the communication interfaces along with the driving stages needed for either relay, half-bridge or full-bridge DC and BLDC motor applications.

These highly integrated products not only save space and energy but also enhance overall system reliability through advanced diagnostic features. Additionally, they reduce overall costs by minimizing the number of required components. Ideal for a variety of motor control applications, these solutions are perfect for scenarios where a compact package form factor and a minimal number of external components are crucial.

Highlights of MOTIX™ MCU | 32-bit motor control SoC solutions

Our highly integrated system-on-chip solutions have various substantial benefits due to the advanced diagnosis features and minimal number of external devices.

  • Enable cost and board space improvements:

Our products integrate data processing, actuation and sensing. Infineon offers different packages: a leadless 7x7mm 48-pin VQFN package, a leaded 48-pin TQFP package or a leaded 64-pin LQFP package and enables PCB space saving. The different families allow driving of relays and MOSFETs at VBatt ≥ 6 V without external components, providing a very cost-effective solution on a system level.

  • Enabling high levels of system reliability:

Extensive diagnostics and protections are embedded within the system-on-chip, more than a discrete approach can offer. In addition, both the MOTIX™ 32-bit motor control SoC and the external MOFESTs can be protected.

  • Support multiple and flexible designs with minimal effort:

MOTIX™ 32-bit motor control SoC solutions are software compatible, maximizing a single design through scalability.

Typical MOTIX™ MCU | 32-bit motor control (SoC) applications

MOTIX™ 32-bit motor control SoC solutions are specifically designed to enable mechatronic motor control solutions for a wide range of motor control applications:

  • Automotive body applications include window lift, sunroof and wiper. A reference design for window lift using an H-bridge driver IC with integrated Arm Cortex M0 is available.
  • Automotive powertrain and thermal management applications includes water, oil and fuel pumps, cooling fan and HVAC fans Reference designs for a 100W auxiliary water pump, a 150W coolant pump and an engine cooling fan using a 3-phase BLDC driver IC with integrated Arm® Cortex®-M3 are available including detailed documentation, layout files and measurement reports.
  • Industrial applications include e.g. power tools, gardening tools, robotics.

MOTIX™ MCU tool chain and design-in support

MOTIX™ MCU | 32-bit motor control SoC solutions are supported by a complete development toolchain provided by Infineon and third-party vendors. The toolchain includes compilers, debuggers, evaluation boards & shields, reference designs, low-level drivers, verified and production-ready motor control software and configuration tools. Furthermore, plenty of application notes are available to support your design-in activities.

Together with our partners (Preferred Design Houses) we offer an optimized open market customer support for systems using our system-on-chip solutions. They are trained to provide application- and product-specific support such as

  • Consulting & training
  • Provision of software components, e.g. low-level drivers, embedded software, simulation models
  • Software development, e.g. parameterization, customization, optimization, tuning
  • Mechatronic development, e.g. design, layout & development of systems, system and test verification
  • Testing, e.g. measurement and test services, test bench services like identification, verification, validation
  • Prototyping, e.g. target cost development, PCB design & component selection
MOTIX™ Software and Tools
  • MOTIX™ Motor Control Library for BLDC motor control allows users to easily optimize parameters and carry out configurations. Through automated testing and test coverage reporting, production ready quality is ensured. Furthermore, due to modularized software architecture and platform approach, software solutions are scalable.
  • Low-level drivers provide users with a file pair (c./.h file) per module to allow the initialization and configuration of the module during runtime via the provided APIs. The low-level driver is offered as demo code. Customers can also get access to additional documentation and test reports.
  • Configuration tools provide graphical user interfaces to define and generate register settings for the evaluation and configuration of MOTIX™ products. For example, the MOTIX™ Solution Designer allows users to analyze, debug and tune your motor control application based on Infineon’s MOTIX™ Motor Control Library.
  • Simulation & modeling tools allow for efficient prototyping of design and calculation of right values and parameters.
  • Utilities are tools which enable users to accomplish a range of tasks such as get readings, analyze data and create dashboards, e.g. the Infineon MCU Memory Analyzer.
